This is a follow-up to Dick’s earlier blog about our journey to New York today.
WE MADE IT – sort of.
We’re staying at an RV Park across from Manhattan, but it’s actually located in Jersey City. Technically, we are not in the City, but it’s so close we can almost touch it
The ride getting to New Jersey wasn’t bad at all (except for paying lots and lots of tolls….yikes!).
Trying to navigate the narrow city streets in Jersey City as we wound our way down to the Liberty Harbor RV Park was a bit of a challenge. I give a big shout out to Dick for his expert navigation skills, and to Ken for being able to drive “The Ox & Stanley” without hitting anything while dodging all the crazy drivers we encountered.
It was awesome to get see the Manhattan skyline come into view this afternoon. Seeing the Freedom Tower standing tall and proud gave me goosebumps.
We got checked into the RV park okay. Our site is one of the “larger” ones I am told, but this is really just a big gravel parking lot and things are pretty cozy. We were lucky to have room enough to open our slide.
The dogs didn’t seem to crazy with their new surroundings…..there’s only a patch of weeds for them…..a far cry from the beautiful dog park they had in Maryland.
Set up was easy (especially for me, since I just watch the guys do everything) and once the dogs got back inside the trailer, they were happy puppies. They would have been happier though if Dick would have shared his snack with them.
Dick and I took a bike ride around the area to scope out possible dog walking areas and to see what restaurants are close.
We found a restaurant that might be a good place to try tonight. Everyone agrees to get to bed early since we’re going to have a long day tomorrow touring around the Manhattan area.
The restaurant, “The Tap Haus” was a loud sports bar…..definitely not Ken’s kind of place, but it was close and the menu looked good, so we went there.
Salad Drama
I’m sure no one will be surprised to hear that I ordered a salad……it was described as an Advocado Cobb salad, but it was really just a plate of shredded lettuce with some kind of horrid apple cider vinegar dressing on it and three slices of advocado on the side. The flavor was awful! Dick saw my face get all scrunched up when I tasted it,, so he tried it and said it was good! He had ordered a chicken club sandwich and offered me half which I gladly accepted, and he ate my salad.
I tried to get Ken or Steve to taste the nasty salad, but they said they “didn’t want to get involved”…lol.
We had a nice walk back to the RV park and I took the picture you see at the top of this post showing the lights across the harbor of Manhattan. The Freedom Tower sure stands out.
Steve and Dick are now watching football, Ken went to bed, the dogs are sacked out and I’m writing this blog.
Tomorrow morning we’re going to the 911 Museum first, and then will do the tourist thing.
Goodnight from (almost) New York!
