Today the “Xfinity” race is scheduled to run, but it’s a very grey and misty day here in Dover.  Unless the dryers can get the track dry by 3:00pm, the race will be re-scheduled for tomorrow morning because the “Monster Mile” track has no lights.  This information was provided by one of the helpful folks stationed around the grounds of the race track.

We are not going to today’s race, we only have tickets for the main event (Monster Energy race) scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00pm.

While the misty day is great for the dogs and very pleasurable for bike riding (we took another great ride this morning), it can be a pain for fans and for NASCAR trying to fit in all the racing.

We spent a little time looking at some of the displays around the venue, including this enormous US flag which was located near the Military Village display.

This is a pic of me next to a gigantic poster of my driver, Erik Jones (#20). I chose this young man (he’s only 23 years old) as my driver this season after my long time favorite driver, Carl Edwards, retired.  I like Erik because he seems very humble, is an aggressive driver without being reckless, and he has a great back story. His dad (who was his racing mentor and sacrificed alot so Erik could pursue a racing career) passed away when Erik was only 20.  He has been doing really well and won his first Monster Energy Series race not that long ago.

Race Today Is A Go!

Once again mother nature is being very kind and it has dried up enough for today’s race to start….whether it finishes or not is another story.  Rain delays are not uncommon for NASCAR events, so we’re pretty happy that the rain and drizzle backed off in time to get Saturdays race underway.

The guys are on their way to Dulles Airport (about two hours away) to pick up Ken’s son Steve.  Steve is going to be doing the tourist thing with us for the next 10 days.  I’m looking forward to seeing him.

While waiting for the three guys to get back, me and the girls have been walking & hanging out.

Fourth Traveler Made It

Steve made it to Dulles around 4:30pm….poor guy had a long day too. Worked yesterday, got home and had a bad water problem he had to fix, barely got to bed & had to get up and go to the airport. Good thing he’s young!

We had a nice dinner “at home”…..barbecue rib eye steaks, green salad & green beans. It all tasted so good….probably because we didn’t eat until almost 8:00 pm & by then we were all starving.

Right now, looks like the weather is going to be okay for the big race tomorrow.  Should be fun!
