We were all glad to leave the Tucumcari KOA today…..it was pretty much a muddy mess.  We’ve stayed at several KOA’s on our trip, and they’ve all had either gravel or cement pads, but not this one.

Luckily, we had a large piece of outdoor carpet we were able to lay down in front of both trailer doors which helped minimize the amount of mud we brought inside.

With dogs loaded and the mud shook off as much as possible, we left camp and started westward bound once again.

Dick found out about a museum a short drive away that he thought we might enjoy…..it was a museum about “The Mother Road”, otherwise known as Route 66!

Look close and you can see the “Route 66” sign on the road.

Ken’s parents and Dick’s mom all traveled on Route 66 in its’ heyday…..as did most everyone who wanted to migrate east to west.

For nearly six decades, The Mother Road connected Chicago to Los Angeles on a two lane highway stretching 2,248 miles.

Today, sections of the highway still exist, as do some of the iconic buildings.  We were able to see a few of these on our road trip today.

The museum was small, but very well done. There were cars from by-gone era’s on display, and a large collection of original pictures of Highway 66.

We spent a couple of hours at the museum, and before leaving we had a bit of fun !

All this traveling has really made us look good!

Once we got on the road again, Dick made contact with a friend and we made plans to meet him for lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Albuquerque.

We got to the restaurant around 2:30pm, and a few minutes later Dick’s friend arrived.  Lunch was fun…..I’m not sure if it was the visiting or the margarita…..probably both:)

We needed to do a little shopping, so after lunch we went to a nearby Super Walmart. Traffic was heavy getting to the store, but we got there and found a big space to park The Ox & Stanley.  While Ken & I went shopping, Dick took the puppies for a walk. As we walked back to the truck, I was amazed at all the birds in the area….every tree was loaded with them.

We didn’t leave Albuquerque until almost 5:00pm. We had reservations at an RV Park two hours away in Gallop, NM.  The ride was easy….we hit a tiny bit of rain coming into Gallop, but it didn’t last long and the sky was beautiful.

Tomorrow I know we’ll continue our westward journey home, but I have no idea what we’ll be doing or where we’ll end up.

It’s supposed to get down to 31 degrees tonight……burrrrrr.
