We work up in Gallup this morning to sunny skies…..and more trailer issues.  I’ll spare you the details, but suffice to say the toilet wasn’t draining properly.

It took some time to get things flowing again, but now (thank goodness) everything is working well.

Even with all the trailer work, Dick was able to take Windy on a nice outing this morning.  It’s kind of wierd, but they came across this pig on the trail.  Seems like an odd thing for someone to leave?

Last night we hadn’t made a decision on where we were going today.   I mean, we knew we were going in a westward direction (generally speaking) but that’s all we knew.

Over breakfast, Dick presented some options for today’s travels.  After talking it over, we chose to take Hwy 40 to Flagstaff, and then take Hwy 89 to Page, AZ.

One of the reasons this route appealed to me is because Page, AZ is close to Knaub, UT. and one of my favorite places, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, is in Knaub.  I have wanted Ken to see the sanctuary ever since I got to visit there several years ago.

It was decided that we would spend the night in the Page area, then go to the sanctuary tomorrow.

We left Gallup around 11:00 a.m.  About an hour into the trip, we remembered that the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest was right on our way and thought it would be a perfect spot to have a picnic.

We found a good place to stop, enjoy the view and have an indoor picnic.  It was amazing to have such a beautiful area all to ourselves.

We didn’t spend too long in the painted desert, because when we called to make a reservation at the RV park in Page, they said they were full.  We called another campground located across the Colorado river from Page (just into Utah) and they had some room, but we wanted to get there before dark if possible.

The ride on highway 89 out of Flagstaff was spectacular….there were amazing vistas everywhere you looked.

It seems that the dogs were really enjoying the ride too!

My favorite part of the ride today was going through Antelope Pass…these pictures don’t do it justice.

We got into the Wah-Weap campground just as it was getting dark.  We are right next to Lake Powell, and there are no real bright lights here – we can actually see the Milky Way.

We barbecued steaks and enjoyed our second meal today in the trailer…..kind of a nice change after all the eating out we’ve done lately.

I’m sure looking forward to seeing the animal sanctuary tomorrow….hope it’s as wonderful as I remember.

Goodnight from Lake Powell.
