A Travel Journal
Welcome to our family’s travel journal. This is a blog about a road trip our family is taking from California to Delaware, and then back home again. The dates of our trip are September 27, 2018 through approximately November 1, 2018.
We are three “mature” adults who, along with our two senior dogs, thought it would be “fun” to take a 6,000 mile road trip in a Ford pickup (named Ollie the Ox) and a 5th wheel trailer (named Stanley). Yes, we are the type of people who name our vehicles. Hence the blog name: Ollie and Stanley.
The trip evolved over the last several months when several things we have been wanting to do came together. First, there was a very special wedding in Boise, Idaho that we really wanted to go to. Next, our step-son asked if we would be interested in going to Washington DC with him. Third, while not NASCAR fanatics, we are fans and knew there was a race in Dover, Delaware on October 7th. And finally all of us have been wanting to visit the 911 Memorial in New York for a long time.
So, we bought Ollie and Stanley and started making our travel plans. The only serious challenge we think we have is that the wedding is on September 29th in Boise, and we want to be at the NASCAR venue in Dover, Delaware by October 5th for the pre-race barbecue party ! This means we will have to hustle after the wedding. Our ride home will be much more leisurely.
We created this travel journal for several reasons.
- To have an easy way to store pictures of our trip.
- To create an album we can enjoy for years to come.
- To be able to share our trip with friends and family.
- Share information with others who may be planning a similar road trip.
- To leave reviews about RV campgrounds, restaurants, products and experiences.
